Thanks to Clint for reviving the Saturday social rides, which have already attracted some prospective new members. Please remember that, during this unprecedented time, we have only been allowed to resume riding under Government and British Cycling guidelines. Tale of a Bespoke Bike Frame Update

Just a few facts about my project. When the idea for this project started I wanted to keep it as local as possible, well the frame was built by Mark from Leigh-on-sea Essex, is being painted as we speak by John from Maldon Essex and will be built up with American and Japanese components sourced by Richardsons Cycles also of Leigh-on-sea Essex so am quite pleased with myself for having all done within 30 miles of home and hopefully as good a quality job as anywhere in the world. To be continued. Committee Update – Group Rides

I’m sure like every other club, the committee (and you know what they say about committees) has spent a lot of time and effort looking through the government’s and British Cycling’s guidelines in order to see the way forward to riding together as a club again. This included looking at whether Risk Assessments were needed for the rides, obviously these giving rise to a lot of work, preplanning and a loss of spontaneity. However, it was decided, with the help of (co-opted) Noel’s experience of all things organisational, that these are only necessary for organised club rides such as the Christmas ride, charity ride or recreational rides where less experienced, non-members participate.  They would not be necessary for the usual Sunday, Wednesday, and Saturday group rides, other than for the meeting points. … Read entire article »

Formal Club Rides Still Suspended

Following an earlier announcement relating to the reinstatement of club rides and a considered response from Noel Edwards, it is clearly apparent that there is more to be done than just meet up  and ride in this ‘New Normal’. Taking everything into account the committee have discussed the issues raised and we feel that we should continue with the suspension of organised Gateway Club rides until such times as we have arranged for Risk Assessments to be written and all members have agreed to them. Thank you for everyone’s patience in these unprecedented times. The committee will  meet virtually next week and, with the assistance of Noel, I’m positive we can ensure that the necessary Risk Assessment can be undertaken and will be available to all members very shortly. Virtual Gateway Cycling AGM – The Results

To all Gateway Cycling  members From Phil Baker , General Secretary Thanks to all that logged on to the club site, read the Financial report and proposed Social Media statement, seconded a committee and /or commented on the process. There were 34 who replied. You took part in the first Gateway Cycling Club Virtual AGM and made it a success. As a result of your participation the meeting was quorate so the committee members can now serve until the next AGM in 2021 which will hopefully revert to the more conventional format. In these rather uncertain times, we assume this will satisfy the legal requirements. Having used the website for this process I will endeavour to post more on here in the future. Despite the restrictions during lock down it has been good to see so … Read entire article »
