Eleven riders took part in todays regular wednesday  social ride.We were soon split into several small groups spread over the Berwich Ponds route /As I was near the back I was lucky to have ride buddy Vic D hang back and drag me round the circuit .Everyone arrived eventually at cafe stop where lively chat ensued over early lunch .No one seemed to be in a hurry to leave but as some rain was forecast we dragged ourselves back onto the lanes for return to Orsett. As there seems to be some confusion about this wednesdays ride the position is this. The OFFICIAL Gateway ride this wednesday is now the Annual New Years Day Ride details of which have already been published more than once.The reason for this is because from the first year of its inception Gateway CC has always had a social ride on New Years Day AND THIS YEAR IT JUST  HAPPENS TO FALL ON A WEDNESDAY.This does not stop any of you wishing to do some other ride this week from doing so.Next week hopefully all will return to normal.       From Bob D Greetings all,as 2019 nears its end just a few random thoughts on the cycling year as seen by yours truly,nothing planned ,just as they come into my head as I sit here resting after todays ride.Thinking back to last spring the AGM comes to mind when the usual difficulty of replacing some important club officers cropped up again Fortunately  some stirling volunteers stepped into the breech and with those still standing ( THANKS ) forming a new committee which seems to to be working well. Today was the last Wednesday group ride for 2019, twelve members made it to the cafe stop arriving around 1115,having just sat down we were joined by Charlie Milhouse,an ex member who moved away three years ago.Charlie was just driving by having  just made a delivery when he saw the gateway blue train entering Puddle dock so decided to call in and join us.For those who dont him Charlie is a very experienced life long cyclist who was an asset to the club when he was with us and I was very pleased to see him again. Inspite of forecast low temperature seven riders assembled at Orsett today for 10 am departure to Puddledock via Berwich Ponds loop.We managed to stay together as one group at a sensible pace ,not as fast as usual but not particularly slow either, ice on the puddles but the lanes perfectly safe mostly dry with a bit of dampness in the shady areas.Arrived safely at cafe where met Tina who had made way there solo by bike and three more members by car. No report last week as although usual good turnout nothing of particular note or out of the ordinary took place so did’nt want to bore you unduly with the mundane. Fourteen riders assembled at Orsett for todays ride ,a group of nine were soon up the road and out of sight while the other five of us enjoyed a more leisurely jaunt at about 15 mph arriving at the lunch stop 7 or 8 minutes after the others.Our ride was comfortable, incident free and sociable,the cafe was very busy today so the two groups were unable to sit together I think this was probably a first time this has happened.Once again we were joined by Jon L who made his lone way over as usual..
