Gateway New Year’s Day Ride by Jon Lane

Gateway New Year’s Day Ride by Jon Lane

Twelve of us out on the NY Day ride, most of us leaving at a steady pace from Blackshots. Tracey was the star on her ‘trike’ along with her ‘pit stop man’, Terry. Most stuck to the top road past Lakeside and onward, ably led by Dave F. At Purfleet, Tank Hill Road, Alan caught a flat so we all stopped – chat and banter, fixed and on our way. At the café, some took … Read entire article »

Gateway Wednesday Off Road Ride: 5th October

Gateway Wednesday Off Road Ride: 5th October

Started off with 7 at Blackshots then picked up Vic at Bonnygate Wood Park. Cafe stop at the Spitfire and a bit of a chat then on to meet Bob at Dovers Corner. Vic and Terry left at that point and Bob stayed until the RSPB at Rainham marshes. Brutally windy in places (and especially along the river). … Read entire article »

Thx Jon for another great ride. Dave came to say hello and wave us off. We headed towards the general direction of the Tilbury Ferry, joining the river front at the World’s End pub. With the Thames on our right we pretty much stayed on this picturesque route, with blue skies above, to Coalhouse Fort. From there we continued off road towards Mucking, joining the main road just before E Tilbury station for the final stretch. … Read entire article »

Gateway Wednesday Off Road Ride: 3rd August by Bob Drake

Fourteen riders today on the mostly off road ride to Hornchurch Country Park. Really good route, new to some but seemed to be enjoyed by everyone, if you’re not used to it this off-roading can seem quite hard work but enjoyable none the less. I’ve no doubt Peter will be asked to do another one before the summer is out. … Read entire article »

GATEWAY FAMILY RIDE from Grays to RSPB Rainham Marshes

GATEWAY FAMILY RIDE from Grays to RSPB Rainham Marshes

The weather was excellent and the company too.  The 5 intrepid committee members set off from the Civic Hall at about the specified time. The route out to the RSPB was one that we have used many times before. The way through the Mardyke Woods was thankfully dry – but a bit dusty. Once out of the woods onto Ship Lane we continued to the Arterial Road, Botany Way and onto Tank Lane. Tank Lane … Read entire article »

Gateway Cycling’s annual New Years’ Day Ride

Gateway Cycling’s annual New Years’ Day Ride will be going ahead again… starting the new year in the perfect way – feet on the pedals and sat in the saddle…  Meet at 10.00 Blackshots Leisure Centre, Blackshots Lane, Grays RM16 2JU – near the steps. SATURDAY 1st January 2022  We’ve ridden this route many times, heading out towards the RSPB centre café at Purfleet for coffee, cake and our usual jolly festive chat. It’s along dedicated cycle ways, quite flat, a slow and easy pace for families and the less experienced rider… The route will take in the Mardyke Valley and Davy Down, only if it’s not too muddy… on to Watts Wood and the Purfleet RSPB centre. Here a choice to pedal on further for a circuit along side the marsh … Read entire article »
