Sunday Comment from Jon Lane

Sunday 28th August:

A super little ride out today, we didn’t go very far, however the objective was for photos’ and film footage to promote Gateway Cycling Club – on our website and beyond. Meeting up at the RSPB centre Purfleet, about twenty or so of us, mainly in ‘blue train’ club kit.

The weather just right, not too hot or cool… and the sky like the opening credits to ‘The Simpsons’ – everyone happy. A good mix of members, all young at heart, fast and leisurely types. Dave the cameraman and his motorbike oppo had us riding back and forth taking in the Thames backdrop here, at the Concrete Barges and later in the Ingrebourne Valley Park. It was good to see Frances and Geoff on the tandem and new member Jane and reliable regular Sharon showing what a mixed bunch of riders we are… All jolly good fun.

The serious issue of refreshment was discussed. So as to give elbow room we alighted on both the Britannia and Delight cafe’s at Rainham, opposite one another in Upminster Road South. As always plenty of good natured chat and gossip before we went our separate ways homeward. Finally. A really big thank you to Chairman Alan H and Peter W for organising and pulling everything together today. As ever

– Happy pedalling folks – Cheers!
