YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU!!!

Some of you may have heard that, after 4 years, I will be standing down as Treasurer of Gateway Cycling at the 2022 AGM. This is one of three mandatory officer posts within the club. Please remember – NO Treasurer, NO club!

No “qualifications” are required to be treasurer, you don’t need to be an accountant, although some knowledge of Microsoft Excel would be useful and you will be given every assistance from me and previous occupants of the post.

To make the transition easier I would suggest “shadowing” the role from late 2021.

So as Bob Drake said recently “ask not what your club can do for you, ask what you can do for your club”.

Do I need to have a background in Accountancy –

• No, although some knowledge of Microsoft Excel would be useful.

What are the main responsibilities –

• Maintain Club Accounts (in Excel)
• File tax return to HMRC and Companies House (Online)
• Attend committee meetings (approx. 4 per year)
• Administer Club Bank Account
• Attend AGM and present club accounts statement

When are the busiest times of the year –

• Jan/Feb – Membership subscriptions and HMRC Tax return

How much time does it take –

• 2 hrs per month except Jan/Feb where it is more like 5-10 hrs per month
