KENT RIDE NOTES 18 1 2020…

Dear All…

A low dazzling sun and frost underfoot greeted the seven of us at the Tilbury Ferry landing stage, Vic D, Peter C, Bert H, Alan and Simon along with Club friend Martin H.

Up and out of Gravesend town along the Wrotham Road, avoiding a couple of reckless drivers! we headed to the park lands next to the M2. Over the slightly stony foot bridge and through the wintry farmlands and little lanes surrounding the village of Sole Street. All this a deceptively stiff climb brought the seven of us to the village T junction – for a breather.

Jolly banter and encouragement and onward – and the last sneaky little climb – through the pleasant Codham village. Crossing the M2 again it was pretty much down hill from here. Turning right by Higham church spire and along Pilgims Lane with the always inspiring vistas over the misty Thames. Greeted by an oncoming tractor flailing the thorny hedgerows we picked up a couple of punctures! Bert first, me second… Great team work by all, especially Peter, Vic and Alan got us rolling again – aided and abetted with much josh and good humor from Simon (-:

Refreshed at the cafe with its wildlife views we set out for the Thames and Medway Canal. A lumpy and bumpy path made up for with its pleasing reminders of life and times past… Through the quirky and mucky back paths to Gordon’s Prom’ and the Gavesend Ferry waiting for us pretty much – ended yet another Great Gateway Cycling ride – soon to be repeated – Thanks fella’s it was terrific!!!

Cheers!
