Beginners’ Ride

The first of the new series of Gateway Cycling’s Beginners’ Rides will be held this Sunday 24th February subject to the weather – so watch our website www.gatewaycycling.org.uk for any updates/last minute cancellations.
Meet at the Blackshots Leisure Centre car park for a start time prompt at 9:00.
The first part of the ride will be through Baker Street and Orsett to Bulphan.
The intention is to arrive at Bulphan by 9:30 so that any riders who wish can leave and carry on with the Club’s Intermediate Ride.
The other members of the Beginners’ Ride will have the choice of returning to Blackshots by the same route as the outward journey (a total of about 12 miles) or continuing on a further gently paced ride to a café stop and then back to the start (about double that distance).
Every class of rider is welcome to join us and for those who are new to cycling please take note of these guidelines:-

Make sure your bike is in good order with the tyres pumped up to the recommended pressures.
A puncture repair kit (or a spare inner tube) and a pump could be useful.
It’s always advisable to wear a cycling helmet.
Although there is a scheduled café stop it’s never a bad idea to bring a drink with you.

The journey won’t push new riders too far and will give experienced riders a nice warm up before the Intermediate Ride. You won’t find an easier introduction to a truly absorbing sport.

Looking forward to seeing you all there.

Just to let people know, Blackshots Lane is closed @ the southern end so the carpark has to accessed from the northern side of Blackshots Lane via one of the adjacent avenues.Bob D.

A really great ride with five Gateway members (Tim P, Frances H, Dave F, Paul P Tony ? and a prospective new member Jacqi T.
Just short of 25 miles with a café stop at Thames Chase and an overall average of a fraction under 13mph.
Tremendous fun and a chance to meet up with the elite riders at Bulphan at the start of their ride.
Thanks Gary for sowing the seed of this ride which I think is going to become a regular feature on the club calendar.
    Watch this space!

  6. Great ride. Looking forward to the next one!

So glad to hear this ride was so successful,I was very dissapointed to have to call off at the last minute due to contracting a stiff neck probably caused by riding round the riverside park at Mucking in bitterly cold wind on saturday.Bob D.

Looking forward to the next one. Its Mothers Day on the 10th, so hopefully I’ll have my breakfast prepared for me before I set out so I won’t need such a big slice of chocolate cake!
