New Year’s Day Ride

This annual event has set us off in the right frame of cycling mind for a few years now, with our feet in the pedals and our seat on the saddle – preparing us for whatever lies ahead…

This is a steady paced recreational type ride along flat cycle paths, through country parkland and linking up onto the River Thames. It’s an ideal outing for all the family so do please encourage everyone to come along – including of course friends and neighbours. It’s about ten to fifteen miles ish… (Children of 16 or under must be accompanied by Mum and/or Dad though…)

We are meeting at 10.15am and leaving at 10.30, Tuesday 1st January 2013, from Davy Down Pumping Station, off Pilgrims Lane, Grays. It’s a well signed location and there’s plenty of parking space and the toilet facilities will be open for us. (Thanks Steve…)

We’re heading for the RSPB centre at Purfleet and if you like you can stop here for a cuppa and a sticky cake. However we usually continue on alongside the marsh then loop back around pedalling alongside the historic river Thames, then have our cuppa and cake. As always with our recreational rides there’s plenty of chat and banter and good cheer along the way.

Meeting with friends and family who are not quite so keen on cycling at the RSPB has worked pretty well in the past – (Nan and Granddad maybe…) so there’s food for thought…

Finally, both the charities of the Mardyke Trust at Davy Down and the folk at the RSPB at Purfleet have always been most accommodating to our Club so do please feel free, to show your appreciation, with a donation to their collection tins. Thank you.

Wrap up well for this ride – and we hope to see you fit and well on the 1st

Yo! Ho! Ho! … and a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to one and all…

Jon Lane

I hope the weather improves a little Jon but I’ll see you there whatever.
I’m trying to convince my neighbours to come along as well.
While I’m on here – Happy Christmas to all Gatewayers.

    Dear All.

I rode the route yesterday for this New Year ride and apart from a few ‘puddles’ through the Mardyke Valley park it’s all very rideable.

Tim. Thanks for your good wishes … and Happy New Year to you and everyone… The weather looks good, a bit of sunshine and slightly nippy with a light westerly breeze, 10mph…

I’ve had few enquiries from riders outside the club who may want to join us so let’s look forward to a jolly ‘Gateway’ ride out.

All the best and I hope to see you all tomorrow.

    Cheers.

    Jon Lane.
