Waltham Abbey Recreation Ride – Saturday 11th October
The sky above was cloudy as we started the ride from Limehouse station. The five of us cycled along the Lee canal through Hackney and Walthamstow Marshes for a short stop at Springfield Park. With the party conference season over and Parliament returning to Westminster it is more important than ever for UK cycling to make its voice heard. We are still waiting for the publication of the Department for Transport’s draft Cycling and Walking Delivery Plan. This document, promised in the wake of 2013’s All Party Parliamentary Cycling Group’s Get Britain Cycling report, has been consistently delayed and is now a year overdue. Family ride on the Viper – Sunday 31st August
Altogether 6 of us assembled in Blackmore on Aug 31st for a short family ride of around 7 miles . For those who don’t know, Blackmore is a very pretty village 4 miles north of Brentwood. It has been awarded the status of “best kept village in Essex” on many occasions. The name Blackmore originated in the middles ages and is a reference to ‘Black Marsh’ or ‘Black Swamp’ It is also a magnet for cyclists who take advantage of the chance to buy cakes and coffees in the local cafes. We set off heading south passing by the Viper pub which puts on a bi-annual beer festival. Sadly there was not one this weekend. Shortly after we rode through Fryerning and up to the Blackmore Road. Damyns Hall Aerodrome Recreation Ride – Sunday 7th September
Four riders started from Grays and met up with five more at Bulphan for the ride to Damyns Hall airfield. It was a pleasure to see some new faces riding with us for the first time. I hope they enjoyed themselves and that they will join us again on future rides. There was a classic car and vintage day at the airfield. There were numerous classic cars to look at along as the aircraft taking off and landing. Our attention was grabbed by a lady strapped to the top of a bi plane as it flew around the airfield. Leaving Upminster the group split, some returning back towards home whilst five of us continued to complete the full route via Rainham and along the riverfront up to Purfleet before returning to Grays. … Read entire article »
Gatway Summer Time Trial Series – week 14
Well that’s another time trial series over with. This year we had 34 different riders take part over 14 weeks. The numbers were a little bit down on last year, but I think that the weather played a part in that as this summer was fairly wet, and it seemed like every Wednesday brought the threat of rain. Only 7 riders tonight, where have all last year’s riders gone? Although tonight was a bit windy, it looked like the heavens may have opened any minute, and there was the uncertainty about the Fen Lane road surface, so 7 wasn’t a bad turnout this evening. Only 5 riders this evening. I’m not surprised though, with the weather looking changeable, and the uncertainty about the road surface in Fen Lane, I wasn’t expecting many people to turn up. Upminster Park Recreation Ride – Saturday 9th August
There was a good turnout of 9 riders who met outside the visitors centre at the RSPB in Purfleet. We had the pleasure of meeting Fiona for whom this was her first ride with us.
