KENT RIDE 14.3.2020 – WRITE UP…

Rain wind and punctures best says how this ride turned out. My first flat was on the down ramp to Tilbury Landing stage, managed to fix it before the boat left… Joined by Terry W, Sharon P and Les T we got out of Gravesend town to the country route where the drizzle set in… Through Cobham village and stopped at Shorne Country Park for a comfort break and coffee. While inside a heavy downpour set in so stuck for an hour or so – in good company, wet runners, walkers, kids and dogs. Finally set out and found another deflation… fixed and off again we decided to miss the visit to Cliffe. Before Upper Higham punctured again. Following the good practices as before, of checking the tyre carcass found … Read entire article »

TO KENT – RIDE SAT’ – 14 3 2020 – 08.45 TILBURY FERRY…

Dear All. I plan to leave on the Tilbury Ferry tomorrow 08.45 SATURDAY 13.3.2020  – to Gravesend. From here out towards Sole Street, Cobham and on… arrive at Cliffe Cafe for tea and eats… Some uphill work but fairly easy to do, then mostly downhill. We’ll take the Thames and Medway canal path back to the ferry, a bit bumpy so Gator Skin/Schwalbe tyres would be best. It looks to be a bit windy and nippy but manageable for most… An all round pleasant route – we may catch blossoms on the way… We should be back in Essex in time for lunch. Be on time for the ferry – they break for breakfast at 09.00… Sorry I’m later than usual with putting this one out but have been busy. All welcome, hope to see you … Read entire article »

Midweek Ride 11th March

Thirteen riders assembled at Orsett today, after short discussion on advisability of group cafe stops in the wake of the current virus situation it was unanimously decided to carry on as usual for the moment but of course not take any unnecessary risks and review situation as time progresses. The weather today was good for riding except for the wind which although not of a too dangerous nature made for some hard riding in some directions.Usual split into groups of slightly different pace, from a personal point of view I managed to hang on the back of a group consisting of Bert,Phil and Andy, this is getting to be my usual back marker place these days, only to be expected I suppose as the end game must surely be approaching.Much chat over a … Read entire article »

Club Night Friday – Get out while you still can!

Club Night is this Friday and if want to see a more multi-media presentation of this post see Facebook or WhatsApp. Basically they say come to club night to catch up and find out what’s happening in the club. Or just to pay any outstanding membership fees. But there are some random photos which makes it a bit more exciting. I would have just cut and pasted the text on here but you have to know what Ctrl + V/ Cmd + V means to do that. So if you’re really bored you could come along to explain that to me.          Phil … Read entire article »

WEDNESDAY RIDE 4 3 2020 – take two… (-:

We caught a grey weather window between the high winds and rain… 11 – 12 riders set out each at their own pace in small groups of varying speeds. I hadn’t ridden this Bulphan route for a while, it was mainly ‘damp’ with some mud being dragged on to the surfaces. The water had scoured out some potholes making them from small to medium, medium to large… We all got safely to the Puddledock cafe for the jolly chat and well earned nosh, the usual good gossip on news and health and so forth… Soon the sun will shine and the birds will sing – then for a change we’ll maybe cross the Thames and take an excursion through the Kent countryside – Keep pedalin’ – probably see you all next … Read entire article »

Midweek Ride Today March 3rd

Eleven riders took part in todays regular wednesday  social ride.We were soon split into several small groups spread over the Berwich Ponds route /As I was near the back I was lucky to have ride buddy Vic D hang back and drag me round the circuit .Everyone arrived eventually at cafe stop where lively chat ensued over early lunch .No one seemed to be in a hurry to leave but as some rain was forecast we dragged ourselves back onto the lanes for return to Orsett. Split up again I this time managed to hang on to the wheel of Noel E who graciously towed me all the way back to start point where we just managed to beat the rain.Once again we have been very lucky with the weather … Read entire article »
