Gateway Girls Travers Triumph
On Sunday 22nd April was the first round of this year’s Travers MTB series and we had two Gateway riders from our Saturday morning coaching session taking part, Ellie and Kinley. This was their first ever cycle race and both of them did fantastically well, both winning third place in their categories. All their hard work in the coaching sessions has paid off and made their coach, club and family very proud. We hope to see … Read entire article »
Ride Report – Family Ride to Rainham Marshes
We were so lucky with the weather on Sunday, it was like a summers day. Temperatures were in the 20s and we were all in short-sleeves. Seven of us met up at Davy Down and headed off at around 9.30am through the park and along the Mardyke path. The route we took was very quiet and mostly on off-road cycle paths, giving the children the freedom to ride off ahead. There are only a handful … Read entire article »

Ride Report – Family Ride to Belhus Woods
On Sunday 24th September we had our family ride from Davy Down to Belhus Woods. The weather was absolutely perfect and the turnout was fantastic. We had a lovely ride through Davy Down, taking the hill up through the woods to South Ockendon and cutting through to cross the M25 near Belhus leisure centre. We followed the trial from there down to Belhus Woods Country Park where we stopped for refreshments before returning back the … Read entire article »

Club Welfare Officer Required
Club Members, as a British Cycling affiliated club it is now mandatory for us to have at least one Club Welfare Officer. The Club Welfare Officer’s role is to promote the club/organisation’s policy and procedures for the protection of children and vulnerable adults. Over the last year the club’s junior membership has grown and this growth is expected to continue, especially when we start coaching. Even without BC making a CWO mandatory it still would have been … Read entire article »

Potash Spring Classic – Race Report
On the weekend Debs, Ian, Trevor and Myself took part in the first Potash Spring Classic. The course was twisty and narrow and as the private wood is usually used for paint balling they were able to incorporate some interesting man-made features. You can get a flavour of what it was like in the video below. Debs and Ian had minor offs and I had to pull out after four laps due to mechanical problems but we all survived to enjoy the post race cakes provided by It’s a Cupcake thing. Out of the four of us Trevor had the best result but it will be double cake for Ian because as one of the fastest on the timed ‘Segment Slam’ he has won more CAKE! I really enjoyed the event and … Read entire article »

Gateway Xmas Awards Night 2014 – The Winners
Friday 12th December saw Gateway Cycling’s Christmas Award Night, under the capable stewardship of Chairman Gary, go off without a hitch. A good many members were present to partake of the food, drink and festivities including seven of our younger members who busily entertained themselves with the activities laid on. The Christmas raffle, held in aid of Macmillan, went down extremely well with many going home with some some great prizes – donated by Decathlon, Simon Alexander and our generous club members. We raised over £120 for this worthy cause. The Awards It’s been another great year for participation in our club events. We’ve had a fantastic turn-out and wish we could award all those that took part and supported. Alas we can only award the fastest, so for everyone else, chapeau!
