Gateway Winter Events 2017

Please put the following dates in your diary and join Gateway Cycling for some Winter fun: Sunday 12th November Gateway Hill Climb Start from the bottom of Childerditch Lane at 09:45. Normal club ride to start from the car park once complete. There will be a group of us riding to the start from Bulphan at 09:30 or you can meet us at the start. Club ride to the Blue Egg

Club ride to the Blue Egg

On 20th August there will be a club ride to the Blue Egg This ride will be suitable for the Intermediate and Advanced groups and will be at a steady pace of 15-16mph. The distance of the ride is around 85 miles, Bulphan to Bulphan, so to prepare for this you should be aiming to complete a 75 mile ride by early August. Club Welfare Officer

Gateway Cycling still need someone to volunteer to be our Club Welfare Officer. The role is to promote the club/organisation’s policy and procedures for the protection of children and vulnerable adults. Over the last year the club’s junior membership has grown and this growth is expected to continue, especially as we now coach young people. Even without BC making a CWO mandatory it is still necessary for us to have someone in this role. If you want to be part of this club’s growth and continued success and this is a role you would be interested then please contact myself or the club secretary, or come talk to one of us at the next club night. Sunday Club rides

As we are now in Spring, club rides will start at 9am. Please aim to arrive in Bulphan for 8:45. There will usually be three or four groups. Leisure 20 to 30 miles @ 10 to 12mph Intermediate 30 to 40 miles @ 14 to 16mph Advanced 50 miles plus @ 16 to 18mph If any group is more than ten it may split up to avoid blocking up the road. Santa is getting ready for his outing to Hyde Hall. He will be leaving Bulphan on the 18th December @ 09:30, so dress up in your favourite Christmas outfit and join our merry throng! Orsett Show – Saturday 5th September

On Saturday 5th September will be the 109th Orsett Show. Last year there were over 13,500 visitors to what is one of England’s largest one-day country Shows and we will be there again to promote Gateway Cycling to the local community. If you haven’t been to the Orsett Show before then you have been missing out. There will be marquees featuring Horticulture, Agriculture, Hobbies & Handicrafts, Schools, Craft Stalls and over 150 Trade Stands. There are also displays all day in the Grand Display Ring and Horse Rings. Something for all! So come on down and enjoy the day. Nine riders met up this morning at Chalkwell for the Seaside Special. There were seven Gateway members and two guests. Frances led the train and we had a gentle ride down to Uncle Tom’s Cabin. After some refreshments everyone was keen to extend the ride so we carried on past the Garrison estate and looped round via Barling.
