Midweek Ride Today

No report last week as although usual good turnout nothing of particular note or out of the ordinary took place so did’nt want to bore you unduly with the mundane. Much the same could be said again this week but here goes anyway.Fourteen members out today soon split into a medium size group and a couple of small groups on the road.Unfortunately Tina suffered a puncture at the start so with Chris G made straight for cafe after making repairs.I made up a double act with Phil B who pulled me whole way round outward leg at around 15mph and we were last to cafe stop.I understand the fastest group averaged nearly 19 mph with the others in between.Puddledock very busy again today so a table of ten  another of … Read entire article »

Midweek Ride 30th Oct

Another good turnout today, thirteen riders ready for the 10am departure from Orsett.Looking at who had turned up I thought I’m out of my league again here  so while they were still chatting set off hoping to gain a bit of distance so would’nt  be too far behind at cafe stop.Soon caught by Chris M but manged to hang on through Bulphan until we were caught by Peter C and John K crossing the fen from where we rode as a foursome as far as Corbetts Tey.Heading round the Berich Ponds loop Tony G and Keith W came by and pulled us as far as the rise by Damyn’s Hall airfield before heading off into the  distance.Others were now getting on the wheels and led mainly by Chris M again we … Read entire article »

Midweek Ride 23rd Oct

Fourteen riders assembled at Orsett for todays ride ,a group of nine were soon up the road and out of sight while the other five of us enjoyed a more leisurely jaunt at about 15 mph arriving at the lunch stop 7 or 8 minutes after the others. Our ride was comfortable, incident free and sociable, the cafe was very busy today so the two groups were unable to sit together I think this was probably a first time this has happened.Once again we were joined by Jon L who made his lone way over as usual.. Most of the the fast group left early while our group plus Peter C  took our time chatting then making for Orsett a bit quicker than we went out, so ends another enjoyable day out, lucky … Read entire article »

LONDON RECREATION 5 10 19 CATCH UP…

The snapshot here says it all… In the fine cycling weather we drifted down to Woolwich and took a leisurely trip on the shiny new ferry boat across the Thames. We turned right upstream taking the dedicated foot and cycle route the ‘Thames Path’ which encouraging walkers and riders with removing hazards/obstructions and provides good surfaces and wide waterside views. First stop was at the new and very pleasant Thames Barrier cafe for a quick tea and snack. https://openhouselondon.open-city.org.uk/listings/3304 – Onward through the ultra modern ‘O2 dome’ developments followed by historic Greenwich, the twin towers of the Old RN college, the Cutty Sark and more… A zig zag route eventually to Tower Bridge and over to Fenchurch Street. Lee H, Tracy A and Alan A needed to return home early, … Read entire article »

London Recreation Ride – Saturday 5th October

Dear All. I plan to ride to London this Saturday, 5th October, starting from Grays station… 09.30. A hop up to Barking then down to Woolwich and the tunnel/ferry across and then beside the Thames upstream, at a very steady pace.  Over Tower Bridge and probably head north to intersect the Regents Canal… and homeward from there. Will make it flexible, nothing set in stone. Doing this I won’t do the Sunday ride from Bulphan, it’s likely to pour down… All welcome, bring your mates (-: The trains seem to be running ok… Reply here if you wish, otherwise just be sure to be at Grays station (platform 1) BEFORE 09.30. Have a good one (-: Cheers! Jon L  To non Gateway Cycling members reading this. The ride is not for absolute beginners, you’ll need a … Read entire article »
