From the Gateway Cycling Committee

It’s good to see so many members out on the road, observing social distancing rules and riding safely, as well as arranging group riding on Zwift and other online platforms, getting fitter and keeping in touch with each other. Around this time of year we would have held the club AGM 2020, voted in new club officers, been told about club finances, had a chat, eaten pizza and had a drink in the Foxhounds. Social distancing makes that kind of difficult this year, so on 11th May the Gateway committee had a brief meeting via Zoom to discuss a way forward. Brief outcome was – the current club officers have agreed to stand until the 2021 AGM the club constitution will be updated to include social media statements the club accounts for the calendar year … Read entire article »

RIDE TO KENT SATURDAY 18th. MEET TILBURY FERRY 08.45…

From Jon Lane Dear All. The weather looks good for the weekend, some sunshine, a light breeze but a bit nippy at 7 degrees… I plan to take a ride to Kent this Saturday 18th – meet at Tilbury/Gravesend Ferry at 08.45 taking the last ferry at 09.00 (no ferries after 9, breakfast break… Next is 10.20) A short ride out to Sole Street, Cobham, Upper Higham, then a quiet zig zag route through the back lanes to the cafe. A bit of hill work and slight traffic to start but all manageable and at an easy pace. All being well we should be back before lunchtime… There’ll probably be wet and mud along the route so leave your posh bike and take a hybrid, MTB or cyclo cross – ideally Gaitor Skin, … Read entire article »

Gateway membership, GDPR and the new online membership form

From Phil Baker….. Happy New Year to all. Thanks to the 21 members who have already paid their 2020 membership subs. It would be appreciated if everyone paid by the end of January. This year the committee has another small request; As part of Gateway Cycle Club’s GDPR requirements and to maintain the data held by British Cycling, Paul Plumridge has developed an on line membership form. Can all, “that means ALL”, members please complete the form. It has been simplified removing medical, ethnicity and in case of emergency information so it only takes a couple of minutes to complete. We will use the data to update not only the club’s British Cycling records, but also the email address list used for the weekly website news round and access to Facebook. In that way we can ensure … Read entire article »

Santa Ride 2019

From Dave Fish There were at least a dozen of us meeting up at the starting point in Bulphan dressed up in our Christmas finery. We set off riding through Little Burstead, Billericay with a following tailwind to our destination at Hanningfield.
