YEAR END RANDOM THOUGHTS

From Bob D

Greetings all,as 2019 nears its end just a few random thoughts on the cycling year as seen by yours truly, nothing planned ,just as they come into my head as I sit here resting after todays ride.Thinking back to last spring the AGM comes to mind when the usual difficulty of replacing some important club officers cropped up again Fortunately  some stirling volunteers stepped into the breech and with those still standing ( THANKS ) forming a new committee which seems to to be working well. Usual weekend and midweek rides have continued successfully through the year the only downside being the end of the official weekly time trial  although a few members have continued on a self timed basis.A group of enthusiasts once again ventured over to Spain for some riding in the mountains there and I believe are planning to return next year. This year has also seen the end of the club forum which was deemed redundant as the Whats App group is seen as the way forward in this technological age. This threw up a few unfortunate incidents causing some unpleasantness among some members now seemingly resolved.August saw the start of Marks Saturday Social ride which was very successful for a few weeks but petered out as the bad weather arrived, this was a shame as I really enjoyed the concept and hope it can be revived next year.As winter came on it was noticeable that virtual riding on indoor techno machinery has become very popular as soon as the weather turns a bit unpleasant, this has led me to wonder if in the not too distant future all cycling will be conducted indoors. If climate change is as bad as predicted will our summers be too hot for riding outdoors and used as an excuse to switch on the air conditioning and jump on the turbo. On that happy note, if this blurb manages to get through the censors I wish you all a merry christmas and a happy new year. Bob D.
