Burnham and Baddow Sportive (now cancelled)

Please note that this event has now been cancelled by the organisers due to expected ice and snow on the course.

Hi all

The Southend Wheelers Burnham and Baddow sportive is taking place again this year on Sunday 1st Feb.

Our club normally has quite a few riders take part in this event and it’s always good to see a lot of our blue jerseys there. The start has returned to it’s original location of East Hanningfield Village Hall, and there are two ride distances 40km (25 miles) and 100km (62 miles). The 25 mile route is well within the capabilities of some of our recreational riders so it would be good to see our numbers up this year. See the details below, as supplied by Southend Wheelers……

PLEASE NOTE WE BACK AT HANNINGFIELD VILLAGE HALL

Southend Wheelers proudly presents its annual Burnham & Baddow Cycling Challenge; a 60 miles, no-frills, unsupported, untimed ride around the Essex lanes for experienced road cyclists. Starting from East Hanningfield Village hall, the main ride heads for Burnham and Southminster, then west to Maldon and Hatfield Peveral, before tackling the “climb” of North Hill at Little Baddow. It continues through to Bicknacre before returning to East Hanningfield . There is also a shorter ride of about 25 miles that misses out North Hill.

Both routes are comprehensively sign-posted, but there are no marshals, feed-stations, water-stops, or on-road support so entrants must be confident that they can complete their chosen distance without assistance, and get back to the HQ before it closes. Riders must be prepared for the early February weather, carry their own food and drink, and have the equipment and know-how to deal with punctures and mechanical problems. They should also have a plan for getting home in the event of an un-repairable mechanical breakdown.
As usual all profits go to Charity
