Gateway Xmas Awards Night 2014 – The Winners

Friday 12th December saw Gateway Cycling’s Christmas Award Night, under the capable stewardship of Chairman Gary, go off without a hitch. A good many members were present to partake of the food, drink and festivities including seven of our younger members who busily entertained themselves with the activities laid on.

The Christmas raffle, held in aid of Macmillan, went down extremely well with many going home with some some great prizes – donated by Decathlon, Simon Alexander and our generous club members. We raised over £120 for this worthy cause.

The Awards

It’s been another great year for participation in our club events. We’ve had a fantastic turn-out and wish we could award all those that took part and supported. Alas we can only award the fastest, so for everyone else, chapeau!

Sporting Awards:

Winter TT 2013/14 (Female) – Frances Hale

Winter TT 2013/14 (Male) – Graeme Garner

Summer TT 2014 (Female) – Victoria Freeman

Summer TT 2014 (Male) – Graeme Garner

Hill climb 2014 (Female) – Karen Payne

Hill climb 2014 (Male) – Paul Turton

A club is nothing without the volunteers that go above and beyond to support the club and its members. This year three members in particular stood out as deserving an award.

Most Valuable Contribution to the Club:

Noel Edwards – Awarded for his long service, hard work and dedication whilst serving on the committee.

Bob Drake – Awarded for the support he has given to the club over the years and his dedication to leading the mid-week rides.

David Fish – Awarded for the support he has given to the club over the years and his dedication to leading and supporting recreation and beginner rides.

All of our winners were presented with a trophy, certificate and Decathlon voucher.

We were also able to present Matt Saunders with his medal for 2nd in class in the Eastern Counties CA 10.  Well done Matt!

For our younger club members we had a surprise award for them for Participating in Gateway Cycling Events. They were thrilled to be presented with a certificate, water bottle and goody bag.

Thank You

To all those who attended and all those that made it possible to have such a good night to round up our club year, Thank you!

Special thanks go to all who helped set up the hall, buy the food, make teas and coffees, plan and produce activities for the children, donate raffle items and prepare the awards.

Finally, congratulations once again to all the deserving winners of the awarded events for 2013/2014.  We hope to see much more from all of you, maybe even some new faces on the line-up, next year.

Wishing you all a wonderful Christmas, and here’s hoping that 2015 can be an even better year for the club.

Don’t forget, Sunday 21st December is the annual Santa Ride.  If you can’t ride it then please try and get down to see us off or meet us at Hyde Hall.  This event will be in aid of Little Havens. More details here: Santa Ride.
