2014 Orsett Show report

Gateway Cycling had a great day at this years Orsett Show. The weather was good to us all and the crowds came out to enjoy what was on offer. On our stand we met and chatted with many people and handed out club info. We even had a charming man come by – Jeff Brazier – who will be at this years pantomime - oh yes he will !!! The ‘Heart’ team were great neighbours and we had … Read entire article »

Seaside Recreation Ride – Saturday 13th September

After meeting at Leigh Station, seven of us went onto two tree island for a cuppa and comfort break. The weather was overcast with an easterly wind and we even had a few spots of rain, which of course didn’t deter us. Suitably refreshed we rode through old Leigh and onto the seafront path and walked to Chalkwell. (A couple of members of the group didn’t fancy tackling the couple of hills on the road through old Leigh, which was fine by me.) After this short walk, where we were then joined by another member we then rode at a steady 8/9 mph along the seafront on the cycle path to Uncle Toms Cabin at Shoebury for lunch. At Shoebury we were joined by four more members who had missed us at … Read entire article »

Family ride on the Viper – Sunday 31st August

Altogether 6 of us assembled in Blackmore on Aug 31st for a short family ride of around 7 miles . For those who don’t know, Blackmore is a very pretty village 4 miles north of Brentwood. It has been awarded the status of “best kept village in Essex” on many occasions. Four riders started from Grays and met up with five more at Bulphan for the ride to Damyns Hall airfield. It was a pleasure to see some new faces riding with us for the first time. Gatway Summer Time Trial Series – week 14

Gatway Summer Time Trial Series – week 14

Well that’s another time trial series over with. This year we had 34 different riders take part over 14 weeks. The numbers were a little bit down on last year, but I think that the weather played a part in that as this summer was fairly wet, and it seemed like every Wednesday brought the threat of rain. Looking back at the results sheet we didn’t have a wet TT this year, although there were quite … Read entire article »

Gateway Summer Time Trial – Week 13

Gateway Summer Time Trial – Week 13

Only 7 riders tonight, where have all last year’s riders gone? Although tonight was a bit windy, it looked like the heavens may have opened any minute, and there was the uncertainty about the Fen Lane road surface, so 7 wasn’t a bad turnout this evening. We had one new rider tonight, Rose E (Mrs Chairman!), who did a very commendable 24.26. Not bad for someone who is new to cycling, well done Rose. Of the others, … Read entire article »

Gateway Summer Time Trial – Week 12

Gateway Summer Time Trial – Week 12

Only 5 riders this evening. I’m not surprised though, with the weather looking changeable, and the uncertainty about the road surface in Fen Lane, I wasn’t expecting many people to turn up. Richard W, Matt S, Chris M, Paul E, and Dave L (and Mrs Dave L briefly) all turned out for this evenings TT. No PB’s for this year were posted but Matt was only 4 seconds adrift of his best time, and Dave L … Read entire article »
